Erin Sutton and Shawna Zaken both scored goals Thursday night to lead the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Lipscomb at the NKU Soccer Field.
Sutton opened the scoring in the 32nd minute by finishing from close range off assists from Duwel and Payton Naylor. NKU added an insurance score at the 68:51 mark, when Zaken netted her second goal of the season off assists from Duwel and Emily Soltes.
Lipscomb, which was the 2017 Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season co-champion, dropped to 3-2-2. NKU is now 3-0-1 all-time against Lipscomb.
NKU finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots. The Norse also recorded six corner kicks, compared to three for the Lady Bisons.
The Norse play at nationally ranked Butler on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs (5-1) enter that contest ranked No. 22 in the national poll.
TMC MEN’S SOCCER PLAYS TO SCORELESS DRAW: A weather delay halted play for two hours during the Thomas More men’s soccer contest with Transylvania on Thursday. When play resumed, neither team could find the back of the net and settled for a scoreless draw at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills.
Thomas More goalie Jeff Paulin recorded five saves in 110 minutes of action to collect the shutout. The Saints had two looks at the goal in the final minutes of the first overtime, but both shots were just wide.
Transylvania goalie Drew Grisham also posted a shutout, earning four saves. Thomas More is 1-1-1, while Transylvania is 0-1-2.
Thomas More plays at Rose-Hulman on Saturday at 2 p.m.
