The workforce development system in Northern Kentucky is consistently working with job seekers to prepare them for their next employment opportunity. This comes in the form of training, résumé support, job matching, etc.
What is less obvious is that transportation to and from a potential job opportunity is a fundamental part of the equation. Does a job seeker have his or her own reliable automobile? If not, is the job opportunity accessible via public transportation? Does the timing of the bus route line up with the timing of the job’s shift?
Thankfully, the Kentucky Career Centers in Northern Kentucky are ready to help answer those questions. In partnership with the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK), our Career Centers have access to public transit information through the trip-planning tools on TANK’s website as well as the TANK staff who are located at the Kentucky Career Center in Covington.
Linking our workforce to available jobs is part of what TANK does every day. Over 75% of TANK riders are going to and from work, connecting employers with employees over 2.4 million times a year. At the system level, public transportation can greatly expand a company’s potential labor pool. Businesses in close proximity to our region’s transit system have access to a significant segment of the workforce who either rely upon public transportation or prefer its use over the private automobile. Furthermore, public transportation brings employees to the workplace on-time, relaxed and ready to work.
When companies are wrestling with workforce and staffing needs, it is important that they consider public transportation as part of the solution. To learn more about TANK’s network of routes and employee-focused service, please visit us at www.tankbus.org for more information.
