Letter to the Editor: Attorney Paul Hill writes letter to Sen. McConnell urging Kavanaugh rejection

Dear Senator McConnell,

It has been a little over two years since I last wrote to you. As I told you then..I don’t write to Politicians. That was my first letter. This is my second…both written to you, Mitch.

To refresh your memory, I wrote regarding your refusal to take a meeting with Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, that I believed to be unfair. You did respond, via your staff I am certain, a boilerplate email espousing how “the Democrats did this first.” Thanks for that.

Now you and I have gotten older and wiser. Our country is at the crossroads of unprecedented turmoil in regard to the proposed appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to our Supreme Court. I watched Judge Kavanaugh’s most recent embarrassing appearance in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. I watched while Kavanaugh insulted the process. He exhibited a complete disdain for the committee by refusing to provide a straight answer. He blamed the allegations made against him by claiming a political motive including “revenge for the Clintons” (really?). He incredibly insulted Senator Klobuchar. He outright lied. Please note that up until now, I have not even mentioned the accusations of sexual abuse — but give me a break — set that aside, his lying and lack of Judicial temperament disqualifies him. Despite your protests to the contrary, I am sure you understand that it is not the underage drinking but the obvious lying under oath that disqualifies him. The American Bar Association agrees as do hundreds (if not thousands soon) of law professors. Does any person really want this man setting legal precedent for years to come?

So last Friday suddenly we are all good. we have an FBI investigation! Come on Mitch, you are not fooling anyone. You have made your intentions clear during this past week..the fact that this investigation is a sham is that Kavanaugh himself was never interviewed. I have been a trial lawyer for more than 25 years and cannot imagine why he was not interviewed. Why would the FBI fail to interview Kavanaugh when he so obviously refused to answer the Committee’s questions? There can only be one reason. Here’s a sample question…Who did he play the drinking game “Devil’s Triangle” with, or who did he ever see play it, who told him about it? Another one, Why put the FFFFF reference in the letter he wrote after signing it “Bart”? Is this reference to his friend with a stutter (why?) or his plans for his “Beach week.”

Trust me, I could go on. Forget the FBI..let me (or any other trial lawyer that I know) ask some questions under oath, there is very little doubt that this guy should not be a Supreme Court Justice (Again, would this really be subject to debate absent the blind political climate?)

But maybe not all is lost, Mitch! You see, I don’t buy the premise that this is all up to Senators from Arizona, Hawaii, or Alaska. They are not my Senators…YOU ARE! I write this as I watch you on CNN moving the vote Forward at 10:30 p.m.on October 3. PLEASE STOP!

This is your chance, Mitch…to be on the right side of history! Can you imagine your legacy? You would be acting in the best interest of this country. You would be establishing a precedent within our Congress of acting in a non-partisan fashion with the sole purpose of protecting our Supreme Court from someone who is not entitled. You would be our hero, never to be forgotten. I’m talking History Books, Mitch! Kentucky Derby and UK Basketball Big Screen

Or you’re the guy who would not talk to Judge Merrick Garland and shoved Bret Kavanaugh down our throat.

What side of history do you want to be on?

Paul J. Hill
Fort Mitchell
