A long journey to the state of Minnesota awaits the Thomas More University football team, which will visit The College of St. Scholastica at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Thomas More enters the game with a 5-2 record, while St. Scholastica is 4-2. St. Scholastica is located in the city of Duluth and competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Thomas More. The Saints are now 49-6 all-time at BB&T Field. Those six losses have been by a combined 16 points.
Thomas More senior running back Hjavier Pitts has rushed for 976 yards and is aiming for his second straight 1,000-yard season. Pitts averages 139.4 yards per contest and has scored a team-leading 10 touchdowns on the ground this season.
A year ago, Pitts gained 1,120 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Justin Post has completed 106-of-183 passes for 1,483 yards and 13 touchdowns. His favorite target is senior wide receiver Logan Winkler, who has caught 21 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns.
Thomas More averages 463.9 yards per game of total offense. The Saints are scoring 35.4 points per contest, and the Thomas More defense allows 27 points per game.
St. Scholastica features quarterback Zach Edwards, who tossed a school-record seven touchdown passes last week during a 47-13 win over Greenville (Ill.). Edwards finished 34-of-59 passing for 386 yards in that game. For the season, Edwards has thrown for 1,977 yards and 19 touchdowns.
St. Scholastica wide receiver Aaron Olson finished with seven receptions for 135 yards and a school-record four touchdowns as the Saints gained 496 total yards.
This will mark the first meeting between Thomas More and St. Scholastica on the football field.
