Fifth Third shooting prompts active shooter response training at RiverCenter in Covington Friday morning

In the aftermath of the Fifth Third gunman attack in downtown Cincinnati, which left four people dead, the Covington Business Council will discuss how to deal with such a tragedy at its next quarterly Advocacy Forum Friday (Oct. 26).

Covington Police Department Training Sergeant Brian Bogard and Lieutenant Marcus Jordan have logged over 40 years of law enforcement experience and have been involved in more than 200 hours of nationally certified training on the topic.  Their presentation “Intro To Active Shooter Response,” has been shared with schools all around Covington and Northern Kentucky.

Bogard and Jordan will provide an overview on important considerations before, during and after an attack. Tactics such as an emergency plan offering escape routes, potential uses for furniture used for barricading and other initiatives will be covered in what Bogard refers to as a “fire drill for active shooter situations.”

Bogard says staving off an attacker’s initial advances are critical. On average it takes four to six minutes for an emergency response team to arrive on the scene following the initial dispatch call.

The Advocacy Forums are free and open to the public. This session will occur at the Media Center in the RiverCenter Complex, 50 E. RiverCenter Blvd. from 7:45-9am on October 26.  For more information, go to  www.cbcky.com or contact the CBC offices at 859-431-1500.
