Thomas More volleyball faces Pitt-Bradford in opening round of NCAA Tourney on Friday

The Thomas More University volleyball team received an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament on Monday, and the Saints will meet Pitt-Bradford on Friday at 3 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa.

The opening round of the NCAAs is being hosted by Juniata (Pa.) at the Memorial Gymnasium.

Thomas More is 31-3 after winning the American Collegiate Athletic Association on Sunday. The Saints defeated Finlandia (Mich.) by scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-19 to win the ACAA title. Jenna Mummert hit .600 with eight kills and a block.

Madison Krumpelman attacked at a .296 clip with 10 kills. Jessica Ginn finished with 23 digs and a match-high five service aces. Krumpelman, Ginn and Mummert were named to the ACAA All-Tournament team. Mummert was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player.

Pitt-Bradford is 20-12 overall after winning the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship, knocking off top-seeded Penn State-Behrend on its home floor to claim the automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

SATURDAY
2 p.m. – Game 5: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2
5:30 p.m. – Game 6: Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4

SUNDAY
2 p.m. – Game 7: Winner of Game 5 vs. Winner of Game 6

SAINTS CLAIM ACAA HONORS: Thomas More’s John Spinney has been named American Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year, while Saints star hitter Emily Mohs was selected both ACAA Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

Mohs has recorded a team-leading 414 kills and is hitting .321 this season. The Cincinnati Seton High School graduate also has 72 total blocks and was earlier this season selected as the AVCA’s National Player of the Week.

Joining Spinney and Mohs as All-ACAA honorees from Thomas More are Jenna Fessler (ACAA Setter of the Year), Jessica Ginn (ACAA Defensive Player of the Year), Jenna Mummert (first team), Madison Krumpelman (second team), Carlee Lambert (honorable mention), Julia Popova (honorable mention) and Alli Borders (honorable mention).

Fessler, a Beechwood High School graduate, has recorded 1,136 assists this season (9.47 per set) and also served up a team-leading 46 aces. Ginn, a Seton High School graduate, leads the Saints with 619 digs (5.12 per set) and has 27 aces.

Mummert, a Clermont Northeastern High School graduate, has 354 kills and is hitting .301. She also leads Thomas More with 95 total blocks and has added 33 aces.
