Turfway Park selections for Saturday

Turfway Park provides expert picks to the Northern Kentucky Tribune during the live racing meets. Tonight’s picks brought to you by Bret Battaglia.

SATURDAY, MARCH 2

Race 1

BREWS TOONIE TOSS didn’t fire as the favorite last time out when she was claimed. She showed some solid form against slightly tougher before that one and rates a slight edge here. SUGAR CANDY ROSE ran a game third in her last start after having some trouble at the start. A better trip could make her a winner here tonight. TWIRLING PRINCESS has a chance.

Race 2

MUNCHIES seems to like the Polytrack here at Turfway, where she shows two wins and a second in her three starts over the surface, and is the choice for the win in a well-matched field. TENACIOUS SALLY looked very sharp last time out, drawing off to win by eight lengths. A repeat of that effort would make her tough again tonight. BELLA KRISTINA has also been in good form since moving to Turfway, where she hasn’t been worse than second in five starts.

Race 3

NORTHERN RANGER shortens back up after a disappointing effort around two turns in his last start. He was in good form before that one and could score here at decent odds. MONDAY CONFESSION has been off since mid-December when he was third behind an impressive winner and looks like the one to beat. U S CITIZEN ran a game second against similar last time out and would be no surprise in a very well-matched field.

Race 4

MR. HAIRE didn’t show much last time out but was running well before that one and should benefit from what figures to be a solid pace tonight. COPUS has been in the money in two of his last three starts and definitely looks capable of winning here. DOUBLE DERINGER has shown some solid form sprinting recently and shouldn’t mind the move back around two turns.

Race 5

FRED’S COUNTRY BOY looked very sharp drawing off to break his maiden by 11 lengths in his first start for Livers. A repeat of that effort would make him tough to handle again tonight. FIVE ARCHES has been idle since late November, when he broke his maiden in his first start over the track. He doesn’t show any published works since that one, but Drury horses always have to be respected. LET’S RIDE doesn’t like to win but shows two solid efforts in his last two starts and can’t be left out of the gimmicks.

Race 6

SNOW BLOSSOM has been a close second in each of her last two starts at this same level and looks best against a soft field tonight. ETSUKO hasn’t shown much in her two career starts but has to be respected on the drop in class for Maker. NARROWS BRIDGE has a chance.

Race 7

TAKIN THE SLOROAD went wrong last time out but won impressively against slightly tougher before that one and is the choice for the win on the move back down to this bottom level. MAN OF BLUES also moves back down in class and is the one to beat. BEACH HUT has won two of his last three and has to be considered.

Race 8

E Z BONUS has been second in each of her last three starts and is the choice to pick up the maiden win tonight. DIVINE DIVA drops in class after a decent effort in her first start over the track and would be no surprise here. LADY CREED has been in the money in three of her last four starts and finished right with the top pick two starts back.
