Covington Police responded to two shooting incidents within about an hour of each other Tuesday night, one of which resulted in non-life threatening injuries to five people.
Both of the incidents were described by police as “drive-by” shootings, but it is unknown if the shootings are related at this time.
Witnesses described a different vehicle as possibly being involved in each incident.
The Covington Police Department issued the following statements regarding the incidents.
On April 2nd, 2019 at 8:52 PM, the Covington Police responded to the 300 block of East 13th
Street for a report of a drive-by shooting where several people were shot. Upon their arrival, officers observed 5 victims all suffering from superficial or non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
A preliminary description of the vehicle is a black or dark colored sedan with tinted windows.
No other description of the vehicle is available.
The victims are identified as:
Simeon Jones of Covington – 32 years old
Kevin Jones of Covington – 51 years old
Zakori Griffin of Covington – 18 Years old
Samuel Hayden of Covington – 28 Years old
Yawshura Jones of Covington – 23 Years old

Greenup Street Shooting
At approximately 10:14 PM, members of the Covington Police Department were dispatched to 1914 Greenup Street for a report of several shots fired.
Upon their arrival officers located several bullet holes in the front window at this address and spoke with witnesses at the scene. Witnesses indicated the shots were fired from a newer white vehicle containing four occupants.
Officers on scene received no information indicating anyone was shot.
This details of this case remain under investigation.
It is unknown at this time if this incident is in any way related to the earlier incident in the area of 13th Street and Wheeler.
