Two local high schools named new head coaches on Thursday. Eric Turner is taking charge of the Scott football program and Nolan Boone will lead the Campbell County girls basketball team.

Turner was head football coach at Lloyd the last six seasons. His teams compiled a 44-27 record overall and went 6-6 in Class 2A state playoff games. The Juggernauts made it to the regional finals in the 2015 playoffs.

Turner is replacing Dan Woolley, who resigned as Scott’s head coach in November. The Eagles had a 45-35-1 record in seven years under Woolley. His teams posted a winning record five of the last seven years, including a best-ever 10-3 mark in 2015.

Scott lost in the second round of last year’s playoffs and finished with a 7-5 record. The Eagles have leading rusher Quincy Perrin and leading tackler Nigel Robinson returning for next season when the team will be in a new Class 4A district with Holmes, Boyd County, Harrison County and Rowan County.

Boone will be making his debut as a high school head coach with the Campbell County girls basketball team. He coached boys middle school basketball three of the last four years and was a Campbell County boys varsity assistant during the 2017-18 season.

Boone, 27, is taking over a Campbell County girls varsity program that posted a 110-53 record over the last five seasons under former head coach Beau Menefee, who stepped down in March. The Camels had four consecutive 20-win seasons before finishing 14-15 this year with mostly underclassmen in the lineup.

The top two scorers on this year’s team were junior guards Mallory Holbrook and Jalyn Jackson, who will be returning for Boone’s first season as a varsity head coach.

“We have good experience coming back, for sure,” Boone said. “The immediate future and long-term, I think we’re going to be good.”
