Greater Cincinnati independent grocer Remke Markets announced its decision to not renew the lease and to close its Western Hills store location. This move comes as Remke reconfigures the neighboring Delhi store location, with a grand re-opening planned for late August.
The Western Hills Remke Markets, located at 5071 Glencrossing Way, will close Saturday, October 10, depending on the liquidation of current inventory. That liquidation is set to begin Tuesday, September 8.
“We don’t take closing a store lightly, as we are committed to our customers and associates across all of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. However, we made the business decision to reconfigure our Delhi Remke Markets location, which is just three miles away,” said Remke President Matthew Remke. “This allows us to continue to deliver on our promise of a local, neighborhood grocery with exceptional service in a convenient location.”
The newly updated Delhi location will be approximately 48,000 square feet and will have the look and feel of a true neighborhood grocer, making for an easier-to-shop format.
This announcement was made this morning during an associate meeting at the Western Hills store, which employs 63 associates. Current store associates will have the opportunity to meet with the Human Resources team to explore available positions in other Remke Markets locations, as the intention is to transition as many associates as possible. Those who are not able to make the transition to another store will receive outplacement support and eligible associates will receive severance benefits.
