Boone County Sheriff Citizen’s Academy accepting applications for fall classes


The Boone County Sheriff Citizen’s Academy is accepting applications.

The Sheriff Citizen’s Academy is a 10-week program designed to provide citizens with an in-depth understanding of the science and art of Law Enforcement in Boone County.

Boone County SheriffThe ten week program will include an orientation concerning the duties of Sheriff Michael Helmig, as well as instruction by many Boone County Sheriff Deputies and other Criminal Justice Professionals.

The academy will provide citizens an opportunity to learn about the 256 square miles of Boone County and its 130,000 residents.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have no felony charges. Additionally, The Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to deny any application as deemed appropriate.

The academy offers a “hands on” opportunity to learn about the complex and diverse service of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Classes take place on Thursday evenings, once a week, over 10-week consecutive period, starting Sept. 17. Classes begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.
