The Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Co. is celebrating its third anniversary with a beer-bash fundraising party at Pompilio’s restaurant in Newport on Friday, to benefit Pass the Hat.
It’s registered fun and excitement!
The festivities get underway at 5 pm on the patio, with mouth-watering Pompilio’s appetizers and of course, plenty of always refreshing Wiedemann’s Fine Beer — including the 6 pm tapping of Wiedemann’s lemony Bohemian Summer Brew, an unfiltered dry-hopped Weissbier. Live (and oh so lively) music begins at 7 pm with Cincinnati’s rollicking “Goddess of the Blues” Cheryl Renee and drummer Shorty Starr.
The evening will once again feature raffles for great prizes and Split the Pots to benefit Pass the Hat (http://passthehat05.wix.com/pass-the-hat-05), a Northern Kentucky non-profit that helps local residents battling cancer.
Pompilio’s and Wiedemann’s Fine Beer will donate $1 to Pass the Hat for each Wiedemann beer sold. Cornhole will be set up on Pompilio’s bocce courts for your recreational pleasure.
“Pass the Hat is thrilled to once again have the support of Newport’s great local beer company,” said Sheri Heffern, co-founder of Pass the Hat and a cancer survivor. “The party at Pompilio’s is a terrific way for people to help local cancer patients in need and at the same time enjoy great-tasting local brews and food.”

The new Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Co. was founded in 2012 by long-time local beer journalist and beer enthusiast Jon Newberry. Wiedemann’s Fine beers, including flagship Wiedemann’s Special Lager, Wiedemann’s Royal Amber Lager, Wiedemann’s Bohemian Summer Brew, and the soon-to-be released Wiedemann’s Oktoberfest, are available throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
With ownership and management back under local control for the first time since 1967, plans are actively underway to return brewing operations to a new Wiedemann Brewery in Newport. Look for a further announcement with more details in the coming months.
Iconic Wiedemann’s Fine Beer is a well-known Northern Kentucky’s consumer brand. It has been the mark of fine Bohemian-style beer since George Wiedemann opened his original brewery in 1870. Wiedemann’s signs still adorn many of the area’s finest local establishments. That includes Pompilio’s, whose ornate wooden bar was delivered from the original Wiedemann Brewery by horse-drawn carriage in the early 1900s.
“It’s great to celebrate three years of Wiedemann’s successful revival, and our fourth mid-summer beer bash at Pompilio’s. But really we’re still just getting started,” said Wiedemann owner Jon Newberry. “And so is Pass the Hat, a Northern Kentucky charity that’s making a real difference for people fighting cancer. We’re thrilled to join with our good friends at Pompilio’s again to drink Newport’s finest beer and help the cause. I hope a ton of Wiedie fans in the area can join us.”
