Former Covington Police Chief Spike Jones nominated for same post with Kenton County PD


Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann has nominated Michael “Spike” Jones to be the new Chief of Police for the Kenton County Police Department, subject to approval by the Kenton County Fiscal Court at its August 11 meeting.

Jones served the City of Covington as a police officer for twenty-seven years, including three years as Chief of Police. He also served as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshal in the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Jones is a recipient of the Life Saving Medal and was twice awarded the Covington Police Departmental Service Decoration.

Jones graduated from Holmes High School and, in 2012, was named to the Holmes High School Hall of Distinguished Alumni. In 1996, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University while working full time with the Covington Police Department. In 2010, he received a Master of Science in Executive Leadership and Organizational Change from Northern Kentucky University.
