Schultz scores 1,000th career point, No. 20 Thomas More cruises to 95-36 win over the Virgin Islands

Emily Schultz became the 20th women’s basketball player in Thomas More history to score 1,000 career points as the 20th-ranked Saints posted a 95-36 win over the University of the Virgin Islands on Tuesday night at the Connor Convocation Center.

Schultz, a senior forward and a graduate of Bishop Brossart High School, scored her 1,000th career point on a layup with 8:32 to play in the first quarter. The Saints led 58-18 at halftime and improved to 9-2.

Thomas More’s Kaela Saner led the team with 15 points. Courtney Hurst added 12 points and three assists for the Saints, who won the rebounding battle by a 51-27 margin.

Schultz finished with six points and seven rebounds. Zoie Barth chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and five assists, while teammate Lucy Carrigan scored 10 points off the bench.

Jadyn Rice scored 15 points to lead the Virgin Islands, which is now 0-11.

Prior to the game, Thomas More retired the jersey of three-time All-American Sydney Moss. She scored 1,511 career points as a Saint and also added 476 rebounds, 266 assists and 136 steals.

Moss set the NCAA Division III women’s single-game scoring mark on Feb. 28, 2014, when she poured in 63 points against Waynesburg (Pa.).

Thomas More next travels to the state of Arizona to compete in the Phoenix Frontier Classic. The Saints begin the tournament against Montana Western at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
