High school football scrimmage games will charge admission to replenish scholarship fund

Six high school football preseason scrimmage games on Friday will charge a $3 admission fee to raise money for the Northern Kentucky Football Coaches Association scholarship fund.

This summer, the coaches association presented a $500 scholarship to one senior player from each of its 20 member schools during halftime of the Northern Kentucky East-West All-Star Game. Proceeds from the preseason scrimmage games on Friday will help replenish the scholarship fund for this year’s senior class.

The six scrimmage games on Friday’s schedule are: Lloyd at Scott, Conner at Beechwood, Newport Central Catholic at Holmes, Newport at Dixie Heights, Holy Cross at Bellevue and Covington Catholic at Campbell County. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. for each game.

Three of the four new head coaches in the area — Tim Viox of Newport, Eddie Eviston of CovCath and Woody McMillen of Bellevue — will be patrolling the sidelines in those games. The other new head coach, Marty Steele of Boone County, has a home scrimmage game at 7 p.m. Saturday against Bourbon County.

The 2015 high school football season will begin Friday, Aug. 21 with 11 games on the schedule.
