DHL invites local groups and businesses to form teams for a plane pull at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to benefit Special Olympics Kentucky.
The event takes place Saturday, Sept. 26, beginning at 9 a.m.
“This is an opportunity for all of us in the local community to show that we’re coming together for the athletes of Special Olympics Kentucky,” said Joanie Arias, Vice President, DHL Express CVG Americas Hub. “We expect a lot of good-natured competition and invite all organizations and businesses to take part with a pull team of their own.”
DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, hopes to raise $50,000 to support Special Olympics athletes in Kentucky.
“It’s not every day that you get to test your team’s strength against a 147,000 lb. aircraft while helping a fantastic organization that does great work each and every day. It will be a fun event that makes a difference,” Arias said.
Sponsors of the event include Chuy’s, CVG, Kentucky Law Enforcement, and Levi Strauss & Co.
“The funds raised through this event will help us support Special Olympics athletes in Kentucky with programs that encourage teamwork and the individual pride that competition fosters,” said Arias. “On September 26 our CVG DHL hub is the place to be for those who want to support a great cause in a fun and memorable way.”

Each team that competes to pull one of DHL’s Boeing 757s – used on one of the more than 80 flights that come in and out of the hub each day – 12 feet in the shortest time will raise $1,000, or $50 per person, for Special Olympics Kentucky. Everyone wins, but the team that pulls the fastest will receive top honors.
In addition, prizes will also be given for team spirit (typically the best cheer) and the best team t-shirt. The top individual fundraiser and the top team fundraiser will also be recognized.
The plane pull will occur on the ramp of the DHL Express Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) at 236 Wendell H Ford Boulevard in Florence.
The CVG hub is one of three DHL super hubs, through which it ships more parcels and freight internationally than any other company.
