Northern Kentucky University will host Oen Michael Hammonds, an NKU alumnus and lead facilitator and advisory designer at IBM, on Thursday as part of Cincinnati Design Week.

Hammonds will deliver a public lecture about design thinking, “People + Practice + Places = Outcomes,” based upon his work in radical collaboration and user-centered empathy at IBM in Austin, Texas.

Hammonds is an award-winning designer who received his B.F.A. in graphic design from NKU in 1999. His work at IBM crosses boundaries, bringing together design, business and computer science.

He is an adjunct instructor at Austin Community College and taught at NKU from 2005-07.

The lecture begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 in the James C. and Rachel M. Votruba Student Union, Room 107A. It is free and open to the public.

The event is part of Cincinnati Design Week, a five-day celebration of creativity featuring workshops, studio tours, panel discussions, lectures and other events at venues across the region. It is co-sponsored by the Cincinnati chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
