Fashionista: Time for lovely fall season and the transition fashion requires — sometimes that’s hard

I absolutely LOVE the fall season; the beautiful, lush greens of the summer begin to turn into a myriad of deep golds, browns, burgundies and black. As the air becomes cooler, we transition to boots, closed-toe shoes and mules.

Mother nature makes the transition from one season to another look seamless, but in reality, transition is hard. It seems we have been in transition for the past year and a half. We can learn a few lessons about transition from fashion.

In the fashion world retailers and buyers start planning for transition months ahead; by the beginning of July all the latest fall styles begin to surface, and boutique owners everywhere begin to plan for fall. In this life the only thing that is certain is transition, so we need to be prepared.

We all hate change, but it is the only constant. Knowing that change is coming and planning for it prevents us from being stagnant and being caught off guard every time something out of the ordinary happens.

In fashion, we take a summer dress and pair it with a sweater and tights which makes it a transitional outfit.

Each season we should go through our closets and recycle the items we did not wear. Anything that is torn, frayed or mismatched should be thrown out. We take the best items of one season and pair it with fresh new items for the new season.

The same can be said for life’s transition. As we enter a new season, we should take with us all the valuable lessons learned from the previous season, leave all the outdated and unproductive thinking in the old season, and look for opportunities to explore opinions that are different than ours. It might just fit like a beautiful new scarf.

Lastly, fashion is known to recycle old styles, changing them every so slightly to bring them up to date and on trend. Our world is ever-changing, it doesn’t mean we need to abandon our old convictions and embrace everything that is thrown at us, but sometimes life calls for us to listen and to make small changes.

Some of our old thinking was just passed down from one generation to the next and when we take time to really think about the why behind our behaviors maybe, just maybe they don’t always add up.

Let’s recycle some of that old thinking to allow new thoughts and new people into our lives, along with our new fall wardrobe.
