On Dec. 2, the first 500 fans attending the highly-anticipated matchup between Dawn Plitzuweit’s women’s team and Kentucky will receive #NorseUp foam fingers, and caps will go to the first 1,000 through the doors on Dec. 19.
Families with kids should circle their calendars for Jan. 9 for Kids’ Day, where the first 500 fans will receive exclusive Victor E. Viking winter hats, and several of Victor’s friends will play basketball on the floor at halftime of the men’s basketball matchup with Wright State. The giveaways continue with 3’x5’ Norse logo flags for the first 1,000 fans on Homecoming (Feb. 6), and a yet to be announced pink giveaway on Feb. 13 for the women’s Play4Kay game for breast cancer awareness.
From $1 beverage nights to several entertaining halftime performers, BB&T Arena will be an entertaining atmosphere this winter. Qualah named Horizon League Offensive Player of Week
Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer player Kobie Qualah was named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Qualah scored three goals in two matches, including two overtime Golden Goals between NKU’s wins over Eastern Illinois and Green Bay last week.
Against Eastern Illinois, the Louisville, Kentucky, native netted the game-winner 30 seconds into overtime with an assist by Jacob Cunningham. Cunningham played the ball down the left side past the defense to Qualah who then beat the Panther goalkeeper in a one-on-one to give NKU a 2-1 win.
On Saturday against Horizon League foe Green Bay, Qualah netted the match’s opening goal for the Norse and the overtime game-winner. Qualah found the net in the 13th minute with an assist by Cunningham and Alwin Komolong.
Cunningham played the ball to Komolong who found Qualah in the box to the right. Qualah then finished to the back left corner to give the Norse the 1-0 advantage. In overtime, Johannes Jansen served the ball from the far right wing, with Qualah heading it home for the finish and 2-1 win.
Qualah leads the team in points (12), goals (six) and game-winning goals (three) this season. Qualah is the second Norse player to receive Horizon League Player of the Week honors this season. Goalkeeper A.J. Fleak twice earned Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season.
