Northern Kentucky’s Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers opens first Ohio office


Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers has opened its first Cincinnati office location.

Located in Suite 231 of the Christ Hospital Medical Office Building at 2123 Auburn Avenue, the Mt. Auburn office brings the number of Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers locations to six.

Formed in 2003 by the merger of three independent orthopaedic practices in Northern Kentucky, Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers has grown steadily since. Commonwealth Orthopaedic has developed a strong relationship with St. Elizabeth Healthcare, including shared facilites in Northern Kentucky.

The practice now consists of 20 physicians specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive surgery and total joint replacement, hand, shoulder & elbow, hip & knee, foot and ankle, and spine, and offers in-office X-ray, MRI, and physical therapy services.

“Our new office provides better access to our patients in Cincinnati, while continuing to serve Northern Kentucky,” Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers CEO JoAnn Reis said. “Our ultimate goal is to provide high quality and cost-effective orthopaedic care to patients throughout the Greater Cincinnati area.”

Initially, Dr. Jonathon M. Spanyer is seeing patients in the Mt. Auburn office; in the next month, other physicians will add office time in the Mt. Auburn office soon as well.

Dr. Spanyer specializes in knee and hip joint replacement and reconstruction.

Commonwealth OrthoA native of Cincinnati, Dr. Spanyer attended Lakota West High School and the University of Cincinnati where he earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering. He went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Louisville.

Dr. Spanyer chose to sub-specialize with a Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction for Knee and Hip Replacement at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard University Medical School in Boston, prior to returning to the Tri-State area to practice. Dr. Spanyer is currently accepting new patients.
