Gov. Matt Bevin has announced the appointment of David A. Dickerson of Glasgow as Secretary of the Public Protection Cabinet.
“David has the character and commitment I am looking for as I continue to fill key positions in this administration,” said Gov. Bevin. “He is a proven business leader and a trusted friend. He will be a great leader in Public Protection.”
Dickerson served as Barren County Judge Executive from 1994 to 1999.
In 1971, just out of Glasgow High School, Dickerson began working in his family business, where he began as a laborer in the timber cutting crew and learned the business from the ground up.
Dickerson most recently served as Corporate Officer for Dickerson Lumber Company – his family business – where he co-managed day-to-day operations.
“I am very excited and honored to serve Kentucky as a part of this administration,” Dickerson said.
Dickerson is a graduate of Western Kentucky University. He has two children and two grandchildren.
Ramsey selects Nemes for deputy secretary position
Labor Secretary Derrick Ramsey has announced the appointment of Mike Nemes of Bullitt Co. as Deputy Secretary of the Labor Cabinet.
“I’m pleased to have Mike join me in leading the Labor Cabinet,” said Ramsey. “His legislative experience, paired with his years of business experience, makes him a tremendous advocate for Kentucky workers.”
From January 2011 to January 2013, Nemes served as a State Representative for Kentucky’s 38th District. During that time, he served as co-chair of the House Labor and Industry Committee and a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Licensing and Occupations Committee.
“I look forward to working with Kentucky’s employers and workforce to foster and promote cooperative relations between the two for the welfare of both,” said Nemes.
Nemes worked 17 years for a soft drink bottler in Kentucky, where he served as a Teamster union steward. He then bought a bakery distributorship and grew the business, before selling it 13 years later.
From there, he went to the construction industry as a project coordinator for an insulation company, where he received OSHA training and served with workers from the Heat and Frost Insulators Union.
Nemes and his wife, Angie, have four children and six grandchildren.
