The top-ranked girls high school golfer in Kentucky added another tournament title to her resume on Tuesday when Cooper senior Reagan Ramage carded a 5-under par 66 to win the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Championships at Kenton County Golf Course.

The victory comes one week before the Region 7 tournament that will be held on the same course. Ramage took medalist honors in the last four region tournaments and led Cooper to the team title each of those years.

If Ramage remains on top in the statewide point standings through the region and state tournaments, she will cap her successful career by being named Ms. Kentucky Golf.

No local golfer has won that award since its inception in 2006. Ramage did earn enough points to recieve first-team all-state honors the last two years.

Last weekend, Ramage placed sixth in the 36-hole Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-State Tournament. Her even-par 72 in Sunday’s final round tied for best score that day and she followed it up with a 5-under 66 in Tuesday’s conference tournament.

The next four golfers on the conference tournament leader board were Anika Okuda of Ryle (74), Didi Jiradamkerng of Notre Dame (77), Sophia Seals of Conner (79) and Carly Apgar of St. Henry (81). The team champions were Cooper in Division I and St. Henry in Division II.

The NKAC boys tournament took place on Monday, but individual and team scores were not available. The Region 7 boys tournament will be played Monday at Boone Links Golf Course.

Brossart sending three teams to compete in All “A” Classic state tournaments

Brossart will have teams competing in three All “A” Classic state tournaments for boy and girls soccer and volleyball this weekend. Last month, the Mustangs had teams in the boys and girls state golf tournaments for small schools.

This is the 15th time in 16 years the Brossart volleyball team has qualified for the state tournament. Pool play matches begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Bluegrass Sportsplex in Elizabethtown.

There are four teams in each pool. Brossart is in Pool B with defending state champion St. Henry and Walton-Verona is in Pool A. The two teams with the best records in each pool get berths in the gold medal bracket. The other two teams play in the bronze medal bracket.

The eight-team boys and girls state soccer tournaments will be played at two sites in Louisville. In opening-round matches on Saturday, the Brossart girls will play Hazard at 9 a.m. at Louisville Collegiate and the Brossart boys will face Louisville Collegiate at 1:30 p.m. at Louisville Assumption.

If both teams win, they’ll play semifinal matches Saturday evening at 6 p.m. for girls and 8 p.m. for boys at Louisville Collegiate. The championship matches are set for 11 a.m. for girls and 1 p.m. for boys on Sunday at the same site.

According to the kymilesplit.com, Beechwood junior Lily Parke remains the state leader in girls cross country with a time of 18:18.61 that she posted on Aug. 24.

Last year, Parke placed second in the Class 1A state meet behind Fort Campbell seventh-grader Emma Underwood, who is not currently listed among runners with top 25 times in Class 1A this season.

Two local runners with times listed at No. 4 are Ryle senior Allison Kopser (18:38.01) in Class 3A girls and CovCath junior Joe Mayer (15:52.40) in Class 2A boys.
