Governor Beshear’s recent appointments to board of directors begin tenure with Gateway


Gateway Community and Technical College has welcomed four new members to its board of directors. Three are by appointment of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and one is an elected student representative.

Michelle Hughes of Covington, Col Owens of Fort Mitchell, Olivia Keller of Covington, and Gateway student Agnes VanderPutten were all sworn in during the September board meeting at the college’s Boone campus.

Michelle Hughes, Vice President of sales for ITDS Division of the Castellini Group of Companies, will serve the remainder of an unexpired term that ends November 2025.

“It’s a privilege to join the board of directors at Gateway,” Hughes said. “I’ve always been passionate about serving this community, and this gives me the chance to help build pathways to education and economic empowerment for so many. I’m excited to collaborate with such dedicated individuals and to make a real impact for our students.”

Col Owens of Fort Mitchell, a retired attorney, will serve the remainder of an unexpired term that ends November 2024.

“I’m excited to be joining Gateway’s board of directors,” said Owens. “This college has been a cornerstone of the community, helping students reach their full potential. I’m honored to help shape the future of education here in Northern Kentucky and ensure that we’re supporting the next generation of leaders and innovators.”

Olivia Keller of Covington, an attorney at Stites and Harbison, will serve a term expiring in July 2030.

“I am honored to join Gateway’s Board of Directors,” Keller said. “Gateway plays a vital role in the higher education of our region through its programs and services for learners of all backgrounds. I’m eager to work with the Board, administration, and faculty to strengthen its mission.”

Agnes VanderPutten, a Gateway student studying Business Administration, will serve a one-year term as the board’s student representative.

“As a student, I bring a unique perspective to the table,” she said, “and I’m excited to contribute to discussions that impact me and my peers.”
