About that TANK bus in the opening BLINK parade, NKU students collaborated on design

Staff report

In the opening parade for BLINK last evening, the crowd saw the results of an NKU Informatics collaborate with TANK (Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky).

BLINK, the nation’s largest public light and art event is setting Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky aglow through October 20 and bringing thousands of visitors into the region.

But for the TANK glow in the parade, credit an energized group of students who worked with TANK to design bus graphics, illuminated experiences, and wearable art centered around the theme “Let it shine on sustainable transit.” The students were from the College of Informatics and the School of the Arts.

As the students utilize their strengths across disciplines, they activated a mission that spans across our region, in BLINK’s words, “nurturing a sense of community and connection through public art.”

TANK’s commitment to accessible public transit and sustainability were at the cornerstone of the collaboration, providing NKU’s creative students an opportunity to emphasize these ideas through art and innovation.

TANK’s Marketing Manager, Jenny Kammes, said, “Our team is excited to ‘let it shine’ on not only public transit, but the exceptional talents of the students and staff right here in Northern Kentucky at NKU.”

The crowd got to see the partnership shine at the BLINK 2024 Parade.

Participating NKU students included Jordan Abbott, Casey Cornell, Jade Doellman, Parker Fleming, Kendall Hall, Josh Huff, Merrin Kelly, Kelsey Naylor, Skyler Phillips, Emma Prostko and COI students Emery Frondorf, Samuel Lunneman, Brooke McDuffie, Aaron Miller, Will Muth, Malachi Nance, Zack Sargent, and Grace Wu.

The project was led by the TANK team, and NKU faculty and staff: Candice van Loveren Geis, Maren Carpenter Fearing, Hans Schellhas, Ronnie Chamberlain, and Sarah Rodriguez.
