NKU women open Horizon League weekend with Thursday matchup with Detroit on ESPN3


The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team returns to the court at BB&T Arena on Thursday, opening a Horizon League weekend against Detroit.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., with the action carried live on ESPN3.

Last Time Out – An 11-0 Wright State run in the first quarter helped seal a 76-65 victory for the Raiders over NKU last Saturday. Christine Roush drained six treys, scoring a team-best 22 points, while Courtney Roush added 16 and Shar’Rae Davis chipped in nine points. Kim Demmings scored 28 points to lead Wright State, while Antania Hayes scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

About Detroit – The Titans enter Thursday’s action with a 12-12 overall record and stand third in the Horizon League with an 8-5 record after a 20-point win over Valparaiso at home. Rosanna Reynolds continues to lead the Titans’ offense at 15.9 points per game, followed by super-sub Brianne Cohen at 14.2 points. Nicole Urbanick rounds out Detroit’s double-digit scorers at 14.1 points per game having knocked down 68 treys on the season.

The Series – Detroit got the edge in a 66-65 home victory back on Jan. 16, the only previous meeting between the teams. Rianna Gayheart scored 11 points and dished out five assists for a balanced Norse offense, as Christine Roush and Kasey Uetrecht each added nine points. Rosanna Reynolds led Detroit 18 points while Urbanick chipped in 14.
