Pickett’s Corner, the bike ministry of Catholic Charities based at Parish Kitchen, kicked off its fourth year on Saturday at Parish Kitchen in Covington. The ministry provides adults who need transportation with a reliable bicycle.
Pickett’s Corner bicycle distribution is offered from March through November on 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at Parish Kitchen, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

Since the mission began in 2023, Pickett’s Corner has provided 1,138 bikes, each one helping someone get to work, get to school, keep appointments, and stay connected to their community.
As the new season began on Saturday, Fr. Aby, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Covington, and St. Ann Mission, Covington, offered a blessing over guests, volunteers, and bikes:.
“As we ride our bikes, we enjoy freedom, the beauty of creation and the joy of journey. Today we ask God to bless these bikes and all who ride them. May the Lord keep us safe on the road, help us respect others and remind us that every journey in life is also a journey with God and to God. Go and ride in peace.”
Guests shared how meaningful the ministry is. Willie and Britney, who recently moved to Kentucky from Florida and South Carolina, said, “We had prayed for transportation and today ended up with a bike. That lets us know God is seeing us and hearing us, and things are going to get better.”

Longtime volunteer Steve Wilmhoff reflected on the impact: “This is the 4th year with Pickett’s Corner, and it has been a wonderful experience to see what it means to the community and to give the people transportation to help move their lives along, to have a better way to get around and improve themselves. Also for me, I feel like I am a part of a team with the people working on bikes and the guests we serve. It has been a very enriching experience.”
The demand for bikes has remained constant. To continue operating in 2026, we depend on a steady supply of gently used bikes that can be refurbished.
