Hoxworth Blood Center is urgently calling on the community to donate blood as local hospitals experience a surge in demand, placing a critical strain on the region’s blood supply.

Type O blood donors and platelet donors are especially needed to ensure lifesaving transfusions remain available for patients across the Tri-State. Type O+/- blood is the most frequently transfused blood type. It is essential in emergency situations. Platelets are critical for cancer patients, trauma victims, and others fighting serious illness.
Unlike many medical treatments, blood cannot be manufactured and must come from volunteer donors. Just one donation can help save multiple lives.
Recent high demand from area hospitals has significantly reduced local inventory. Hoxworth is asking eligible donors across Greater Cincinnati to roll up their sleeves and help replenish the supply.
“Every blood donation given at Hoxworth stays local and helps patients at hospitals right here in our community,” said Dr. David Oh, Director of Hoxworth Blood Center. “Right now, our hospital partners are using blood faster than it’s coming in. We need our community to step up, especially Type O and platelet donors, to help make sure lifesaving transfusions are available when patients need them.”
To encourage donors, Hoxworth is offering a limited-time thank-you incentive. Through March 17, donors who give blood will receive a BONUS $20 eGift card and a limited-edition St. Patrick’s Day t-shirt while supplies last.
In Kentucky, blood and platelets can be donated at Hoxworth Ft. Mitchell (2220 Grandview Drive, Suite 140, Ft. Mitchell). Donations can be made Monday – Thursday between 9:30 am and 6:00 pm, and Friday – Sunday between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm. For more information or to schedule a donation, click here. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.
The need is now. By donating today, local residents can help ensure doctors and nurses at area hospitals have the blood products they need to save lives.
