Covington Catholic athletes received 11 of the 18 gold medals and won the Class 2A, Region 4 boys track and field meet for the third straight year on Saturday at CovCath.

The Colonels scored 222 points to more than double Bourbon County’s second-place total of 109. They netted 130 points on the track and 92 in field events.
In addition to placing first in all four relays, CovCath had seven different individual champions. That list included seniors Jacob Keller (110 hurdles), Rhett Blettner (400 dash), Joe Mayer (3200 run) and Quentin Jones (discus), junior Will Danneman (long jump) and sophomores Dominic Terzo (300 hurdles) and Landon Dailey (high jump).
Blettner and Mayer also ran on two winning relay teams to take home three gold medals. CovCath has so much talent that coach Jeremy Mosher didn’t enter either one of them in a fourth event.
The top two finishers in each region event automatically qualify for the Class 2A state championship meet on Friday at the University of Kentucky.
CovCath won the last two Class 2A state titles and will enter Friday’s meet with qualifiers in 16 of the 18 events. At-large qualifiers will be added based on times and distances recorded in region meets around the state.
Second-place finishers from other local boys teams included Holmes senior Demetri Holloway in the 300 hurdles, Lloyd senior AJ Curray in the high jump and Lloyd in the 4×400 relay. In the girls region meet, Lloyd placed third in two relay events.
Complete results from the Class 2A, Region 4 track and field meet are posted on the khsaa.org website.
