Busald Funk Zevely law firm celebrates 50 years of service in NKY, Greater Cincinnati

Busald Funk Zevely, PSC celebrates its 50th anniversary on Thursday, June 18, marking five decades of dedicated legal service to individuals, families, and businesses throughout Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati.

Founded in Florence, the firm remains headquartered in the community today.

Over the years, BFZ Law has built a trusted reputation for providing high-quality legal representation in personal injury, workers’ compensation, family law, criminal defense, and probate and estate planning. Throughout its history, the firm has remained committed to delivering thoughtful counsel, strong advocacy, and meaningful results for the people it serves.

Since its founding, BFZ Law has grown from a small team into a well-established firm serving clients across Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. The firm has remained deeply committed to the community through initiatives like the BFZ Underdog Scholarship, which awards $1,000 annually to a local student who has overcome adversity.

BFZ attorneys are actively involved in a range of professional and community organizations, including the Northern Kentucky Bar Association, Northern Kentucky Bar Foundation, and local nonprofits such as Transitions, a regional drug rehabilitation facility. The firm has also played a role in mentoring the next generation of legal professionals, with former clerks going on to serve as judges and elected officials throughout the region.

Many of the firm’s attorneys have earned recognition from organizations including Martindale-Hubbell, Best Lawyers in America, and Super Lawyers. With leadership actively engaged in day-to-day operations, BFZ Law continues to deliver the personalized service and trusted counsel that have defined its reputation.

“In the early days, there were only a handful of attorneys in Boone County,” said founding partner Andy Busald. “We saw an opportunity to build something here in Florence and grow alongside the community. To still be serving this community all these years later is incredibly meaningful. I’m also honored to be recognized as one of only four honorary lifetime members of the Kentucky Justice Association.”

The firm’s foundation is rooted in the vision and leadership of its founding partners, Andy Busald, Charles William “Bill” Funk, and Wilbur Zevely. Funk, a Boone County native, was widely respected for his legal expertise, dedication to clients, and commitment to his church and the community. Zevely served as Boone County’s first public defender and was a well-respected speaker at legal seminars. Their influence helped shape the firm’s collaborative, family-oriented culture, which has remained a hallmark of BFZ Law.

Throughout its history, the firm has celebrated several meaningful achievements, from mentoring generations of law students and clerks, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in the legal profession, to maintaining a people-first approach in an evolving legal landscape. Today, that legacy continues with a new generation of attorneys carrying the firm forward.

“As we celebrate this anniversary, we’re also focused on what comes next,” said Greg Erpenbeck, partner at BFZ Law. “Our goal is to build on the strong foundation we’ve established while continuing to evolve to meet our clients’ needs. We are committed to staying rooted in this community and providing the same level of trusted, personal service for years to come.”

As BFZ Law looks ahead, it continues to invest in its people, processes, and technology to ensure it remains well-positioned for continued growth and service.

BFZ Law will host a 50th Anniversary Celebration later this month, bringing together clients, colleagues, and community partners to honor the firm’s history and ongoing commitment to service.
