The fire was initially reported on the morning of Tuesday, June 9, and crews worked diligently to contain and extinguish the incident. The fire remains contained to the affected area and personnel will continue working to extinguish remaining hot spots and prevent rekindling.

Due to the nature of the compostable organic material involved, which can retain heat and reignite even after surface flames have been extinguished, fire crews will remain on scene to monitor conditions, apply suppression measures as needed, and ensure the fire remains contained.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding area may continue to experience visible smoke and odors as firefighting operations continue. Currently, there is no threat to the public. Air quality assessments indicate that no toxic substances are being released as a result of the fire. While smoke may be noticeable, it is not considered toxic.

Florence Fire/EMS crews will remain on scene through the evening to extinguish remaining hot spots.
