Kenton County police say Independence man was killed by his own tow truck

The Kenton County Police Department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was requested by the Taylor Mill Police Department to assist with an investigation involving a pedestrian struck on eastbound I-275 in Taylor Mill, on Saturday at 9:18 a.m.

After assessing the scene, it was determined this was not a collision, but a work-related incident associated with the tow truck while attempting to load a vehicle from an unrelated accident earlier this morning.

As a result, this scene was transferred to the Kenton County Police Department’s Bureau of Investigations as a death investigation.

Preliminary investigation found Randall “Randy” Kuntsman, 65, of Independence, was loading a vehicle from an earlier collision when the tow truck began to roll downhill, ultimately resulting in his death.

No suspicious circumstances or other vehicles are suspected to be involved.

This investigation remains open by the Kenton County Police Department’s Bureau of Investigations pending the findings of all external and internal reports. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to email Det. Sgt. Andrew Kenner at investigations@kentoncounty.org.

The Kenton County Police were assisted by the Kenton County Coroner’s Office, Taylor Mill Police Department, Erlanger Police Department, Taylor Mill Fire Department, Covington Police Department, Lakeside Crestview Hills Police Department, and Wilder Police Department.
