Team Kentucky swimmers Maddie Brinkman of Union and Carmen Widener of Burlington swam the opening backstroke leg and the breaststroke leg to help get Kentucky on the road to a gold medal in the 4×50-yard medley relay at the USA Special Olympics games at the Univerity of Minnesota on Wednesday.

Much as they did in their preliminary, Kentucky dominated the race, finishing in 2:35.25, more than seven seconds ahead of the silver medalists from Indiana.
Widener had her second swim of the day in the 100-yard breaststroke. She finished in 1:42.26, second best in her heat.
Golfer Chris Revay of Fort Mitchell turned in a 50 in the first round of his 9-hole individual stroke play event. He leads his flight by two strokes over Maine’s Ivan Sheloske.
Erlanger’s Daniel Hewitt gave a strong performance for Team Kentucky’s Unified basketball team. Hewitt had three early points and a couple of rebounds to help Kentucky open a big early lead on Montana on their way to a 46-14 in.
Carmen Widener will have her second shot a medal tomorrow when she swims the 100-yard breaststroke final. She and Maddie Brinkman will both swim the 100-yard freestyle preliminary.
Hewitt will take the court again for the semi-final round of the Unified Basketball Tournament. Kentucky will face off against Colorado, who they beat earlier in the week, looking for a chance to advance to the gold medal game.
Revay will play round two of three in his event.
