Catholic Charities, Diocese of Covington, on Thursday celebrated the groundbreaking of a new multi-purpose building and prayer room at Parish Kitchen, located at 1561 Madison Avenue in Covington.

The ceremony included an opening prayer, blessing of the grounds, and the official groundbreaking, followed by a reception with light refreshments. The event brought together community leaders, supporters, and those dedicated to the mission of serving neighbors in need.

The event featured The Most Reverend John Iffert, bishop of the Diocese of Covington, and Bishop Emeritus Roger Foys, along with Catholic Charities Executive Director Chris Goddard, members of the Catholic Charities Corporate Board, staff, volunteers, and donors.

“We have been thinking about this for a long time,” said Goddard. “The idea has evolved into something bigger while also providing space for additional ministries to grow and serve our community.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in July, with Century Construction, Inc. leading the project.

Since 1974, Parish Kitchen has faithfully served a free lunch daily in Covington to anyone who is hungry. What began at Mother of God Church later moved to the corner of Pike and Russell, where it served the community for many years before relocating to its current home.

Parish Kitchen provides meals to guests every day of the year from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

In the past year, Parish Kitchen has served more than 50,000 meals while continuing its mission of providing not only nourishment but also companionship.

The new space will enhance Parish Kitchen’s ability to serve and expand its outreach, ensuring that it continues to meet the evolving needs of the community for years to come.
