The Northern Kentucky Area Development District is providing a new program that empowers eligible veterans to remain independent in their homes and communities while receiving the services and supports they need.
The Veterans Directed Care Program, offered through partnerships between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Pennyrile Area Development District, and community organizations, provides veterans with greater choice and control over their long-term care services.
NKADD will be providing case management services for the veterans, assessing needs to determine the veterans service plan and budget, answering program questions, providing community resources, and providing ongoing support.
The VDC Program serves veterans of any age that are at risk of nursing home placement and their family caregivers. Through the program, participants receive a flexible budget and personalized support to develop care plans tailored to their individual needs, goals, and lifestyles.
Eligible veterans can use their individualized budgets to access a wide range of support, including personal care assistance, homemaker services, respite care, transportation, and other community-based services designed to help them remain safe at home.
The program also offers veterans the opportunity to hire caregivers of their choice, including qualified family members in certain circumstances, while receiving ongoing support from trained care coordinators.
