WAVE Foundation will hold its first Trash Dash fundraiser, where participants will compete solo or in teams of two, racing around the city of Newport to see who can pick up the most trash in just 90 minutes.
The Trash Dash will take place on Saturday, July 18, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. from Wooden Cask Brewing, located at 629 York Street in Newport. Participants will be provided with all equipment needed to safely pick up litter, then have 90 minutes to collect as much trash as possible.
When returning at the end of the race, trash bags will be weighed, and trophies and prizes will be awarded to the individual and team that have the heaviest bags.
Registration for the event is only $10, which includes light bites from Wooden Cask Brewing and a custom wooden medal for everyone who signs up.

Litter in the street often ends up becoming pollution in waterways, and with more than 5 million people relying on the Ohio River for drinking water, the foundation believes everyone can play a part in keeping water clean.
