The leading scorer on the Campbell County boys basketball team that made it to the 10th Region semifinals in March will not be returning next season.
Austin Davie, a 6-foot-7 forward named 10th Region Player of the Year, has enrolled at Western Reserve Academy for his junior year, according to a recent post on his X account.
Western Reserve is a college prep school near Akron, Ohio. Last season, the basketball team posted a 26-9 record playing against prep schools from multiple states.
Davie was among the top 10 scorers in Kentucky as a sophomore last season when he averaged 25 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
“Great young man and great family who we will be rooting for,” Campbell County coach Brent Sowder said of his team’s departing player.
Davie is attracting attention from college recruiters this summer playing for Wildcat Select on the adidas 3SSB circuit. He averaged 19.8 points and 6.6 rebounds in his first 10 games with the 16-under age group team.
It looks like Benjamin Brown, a freshman guard on the Scott team that also made it to the 10th Region semifinals last season, plans on transferring to another school as well.
Brown has Summit Country Day in Ohio listed as his high school on the roster for the Midwest Basketball Club 15-under team that competes on the adidas 3SSB summer circuit. In 16 games, Brown has averaged 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
Scott coach Steve Fromeyer had no comment on the talented player’s possible transfer. Summit Country Day made it to the semifinals in the Ohio Division 5 state playoffs last season.
Brown joined the Scott team as a freshman transfer student last year and wasn’t eligible to compete on the varsity level until January. He averaged 22.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 17 games.
Brown and Davie were named to all-conference teams by the Northern Kentucky Boys Basketball Coaches Association. Davie was No. 2 in the Division I voting and Brown was among the top 10 Division II nominees.
Campbell County defeated Scott, 82-48, in the 37th District final. Davie posted a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Brown was limited to 11 points. Both of their teams then went 1-1 in 10th Region tournament games.
