The World Affairs Council – Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky is inviting the community to visit its booth at the Covington Farmers Market for Farmers Market & Friends, August 1 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Guests can learn more about the organization and connect with international delegates visiting Cincinnati to meet with community leaders about strategies to prevent opioid use.
The delegates are Department of State guests invited to the United States as part of the International Leadership Visitors Program (IVLP). IVLP participants are nominated by U.S. embassies abroad and represent emerging leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Since launching in 1940, more than 230,000 delegates have participated in the IVLP, including over 500 heads of state or government, 12 Nobel Laureates, and countless global influencers.
While there, vistors can also learn more about the World Affairs Council dinner hospitality program, where local community volunteers host visiting delegates for a casual dinner. By signing up, new volunteers will receive a stipend for hospitality dinners from July-August. The World Affairs Council encourages newly-recruited “dinner diplomacy ambassadors” to invite neighbors and friends to co-host or attend their dinners, creating a ripple effect of international engagement at a local level.
As the nation honors its 250th birthday, the program aligns directly with the official America250 Commission’s emphasis on celebrating agriculture as the foundational backbone of American history. Gathering at the Covington Farmers Market continues a local tradition of public market squares in the city that dates back to 1830.
Farmers Market & Friends is funded by the Dinner Diplomacy grant from Global Ties, in partnership with Marriott International. The initiative aims to advance cross-cultural understanding by expanding opportunities for Americans to share meals with global leaders traveling across the United States on international exchange programs.
