The Kenton County Public Library Board of Trustees has named Dr. Denise Fritsch as the library system’s next Executive Director, selecting an accomplished library leader to guide one of Kentucky’s highest-performing public library systems.
Fritsch will assume the role on Aug.1, succeeding Dave Schroeder, who retires July 31, after nearly four decades of service to Kenton County Public Library, including 19 years as Executive Director.
Under Schroeder’s leadership, KCPL expanded services, strengthened financial stability, opened the new Latonia Branch and earned recognition as one of the nation’s leading public library systems.
Following a nationwide search, the Board selected Fritsch recognizing her proven leadership, commitment to public service and deep understanding of the Library’s mission and the community it serves.
“Kenton County Public Library is in an excellent position because of the strong leadership team and dedicated employees already serving our community,” said Iliana Rosales-Figueroa, president of the Kenton County Public Library Board of Trustees. “Denise has earned the trust and respect of colleagues across the organization, and the Board is excited to see her lead the Library into its next chapter.”
A lifelong Kenton County resident, Fritsch began her library career as a Children’s Librarian at Kenton County Public Library before returning in 2025 to lead the Library’s nationally recognized Career & Job Services Division. She brings more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning public libraries, higher education, and workforce development, including leadership roles at Gateway Community & Technical College.

The Executive Director serves as the Library’s chief executive o icer and works closely with the Board of Trustees to provide strategic leadership, oversee daily operations and advance the Library’s mission. The position is responsible for guiding organizational planning, financial management, community partnerships, staff leadership and public advocacy while ensuring exceptional service for Kenton County residents.
Next, Fritsch will begin working closely with the Board of Trustees, Library staff and community partners to help ensure a seamless leadership transition.
