Classrooms across the state will soon receive an educational resource thanks in part to a surplus map program offered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC).
“The Maps to Schools program gives students and teachers an additional tool to learn more about Kentucky’s vast transportation network,” said Greg Thomas, Acting Secretary for KYTC.
The Cabinet’s 12 highway districts will begin distributing surplus copies of the 2015 Official Highway Map to educators and students over the next month. The maps are used for many educational purposes including geography, math and social studies classes, as well as library reference materials.
The Maps to Schools program has been a popular initiative for teachers, students and Cabinet employees. Statewide, more than 100,000 surplus maps have been distributed to classrooms since the program’s inception in 2004.
To receive the surplus maps, educators are encouraged to complete and submit the following information:

Teachers must submit their requests to Courtney LeFlore at courtney.leflore@ky.gov or (502) 782-4827 by Friday, April 15. Cabinet employees will deliver the maps to the schools.
The program is a collaboration between KYTC, the Kentucky Department of Education and the Kentucky Education and Workforce Cabinet.
