Kentucky Senate Majority Caucus Leadership once again appointed Senator Chris McDaniel (R-Taylor Mill) as chairman of the Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee ahead of the 2017 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly. The Appropriations and Revue Committee is tasked with drafting and negotiating the biennial state budget.
“It is an honor to be reappointed as the Senate Budget Committee chairman for the next two years,” Senator McDaniel said. “My goal will be to continue to fight for government transparency and fiscal responsibility when it comes to the spending of taxpayer dollars. We made great strides in funding our ailing pension systems with the budget passed in 2016, and we hope to continue that momentum in 2017 and beyond.”

Complementing his chairmanship on the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, Senator McDaniel will continue to serve as ex officio to all of the Budget Review Subcommittees: Economic Development and Tourism, Natural Resources, and Environmental Protection; Education; General Government, Finance, and Public Protection; Human Resources; Justice and Judiciary; and Transportation.
Additionally, Senator McDaniel will serve as a member of the following standing committees in the Senate: Banking and Insurance; Licensing, Occupations, and Administrative Regulations; Natural Resources and Energy; and State and Local Government.
Senator McDaniel will also serve as a member of the Capital Projects and Bond Oversight statutory committee and maintain his post as a co-chair of the special committee on Senate Bill 192 (2015) Implementation Oversight which addresses the ongoing battle against heroin.
“The 2017 Session will mark the first time in 95 years that Republicans have held a majority in the Kentucky House of Representatives,” McDaniel said. “There are several bills the Senate has repeatedly passed, only to fall on deaf ears in the hands of the former Democratic majority. This is an exciting time for the General Assembly but also a busy one as taxpayers will expect legislators and government to do more with less. It will take time for the several new House members to adjust, but ultimately, we do expect the recent election to bring positive change that will continue our mission of creating Kentucky jobs and strengthening Kentucky families.”
