NKU Norse women win over Arkansas State on second day of Puerto Rico Classic-Las Vegas

With four Norse scoring in double digits, the Northern Kentucky women’s basketball team secured an 83-78 win over Arkansas State on the second day of the Puerto Rico Classic-Las Vegas. With the win, NKU improves to 3-8 on the season, while the Red Wolves fall to 2-9.

Stat Leaders
· Junior forward Kasey Uetrecht had an impactful game with season highs in both scoring and rebounding, pouring in 23 points and pulling down nine boards. It marked the fourth time in her career that Uetrecht had surpassed 20 points in scoring.
· Junior guard Mikayla Terry added 16 points, fueled by a 3-of-4 effort from 3-point range, along with seven rebounds and four assists.
· Seniors Kelley Wiegman and Rebecca Lyttle also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
· Senior guard Shar’Rae Davis had a career game with seven assists and also added six points and four rebounds.
·  Freshman guard Hannah Clark scored a new career high in her first career start, chipping in nine points.
 
First Half Summary
·  The Norse shot an impressive 51.7 percent in the opening stanza, matched by the Red Wolves as both teams went 15-of-29 from the field.
·  Uetrecht scored 13 of her 26 points on 6-of-10 from the field, while Wiegman added seven points. Both of Wiegman’s field goals were made baskets and-one, one from 3-point range and one off the drive.
·   NKU outscored Arkansas State 24-20 in the paint and had a 15-13 edge in rebounding.
·   The Norse trailed by just two points at the half after outscoring the Red Wolves 21-19 in the second quarter.
 
Second Half Summary
·  Terry had an outstanding back half of the game, scoring 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
·  Uetrecht added 10 more points and had a team-best six rebounds to seal the win.
·  The Norse improved vastly in the half, shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from 3-point range on 6-of-10 shooting on triples, while holding Arkansas State to 33.3 percent from the field and 27.3 percent on treys.
·  NKU led by as many as 12 points, thanks to a huge third quarter in which the Norse outscored Arkansas State 26-15.
 
Norse Notes
· The meeting with Arkansas State was the first in program history.
· It marks the first time since Feb. 18 that NKU has scored more than 80 points.
· It is also the first time since Nov. 26, when NKU won against ETSU, that two players scored at least 15 points in a game.
· The Norse shot 54.4 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from 3-point range, which are both season bests for the team.
·  NKU took advantage of trips to the charity line, going 12-of-15 for the second-highest free throw percentage of the season.
