Obituary For Barbara Ruth Sanders
Barbara Ruth Sanders, age 90, passed away peacefully September 27, 2024. She was born in Lee County (Cressmont), KY on July 27, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Sarah (Goosey) and Beeler Reynolds and raised by the late (Eula) Mae (Goosey) and Otis Wells. Her loving husband, Delbert Sanders, also preceded her in death. She was an active member of Florence Baptist Church where she often volunteered for Vacation Bible School and as a Sunday School Teacher. She believed in the value of an education and started attending college when Northern Kentucky University was a branch of the University of Kentucky. She continued to attend through the growth of the school as it became Northern Kentucky State College and finally graduated with her degree in Elementary Education as the first class of Northern Kentucky University. She was proud to be a first generation college graduate. She earned her Masters Degree in Education in 1982. She taught at Walton-Verona Elementary mostly as a Kindergarten teacher. She was an avid gardener and quilter. She belonged to a garden club in Walton. She made many quilts in her lifetime as she would often say – it gave her something to do. She loved to travel, having traveled with her husband throughout the United States and several trips to Europe. She became the keeper of family history. She and her husband researched documents at courthouses and libraries throughout Central and Eastern Kentucky. You couldn’t be with her long before she was telling you the family stories. Barbara is also preceded in death by her sons, Steven and Richard, great grandchildren, Michael Titherage and Emily Sanders, brothers, Harold Wells and Ed Wells, and a sister, Carol Cox Haney. She is survived by a son, Bob, a daughter, Regina (Greg) Egbers, and daughter in law, Michelle Sanders, Grandchildren – Jillian Sanders, Angela Titus, Brandon Sanders (Christina) Jessica Lindsey, Bryan Sanders, Nicole Rigsby (Chad), Stephanie Sanders (Donnie), Dustin Sanders (Danielle), Sarah Egbers, Rachel Herndon (Blake), Emily Egbers and Kayla Weber (Alex), 28 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Janet Turk, brother Steve (Ann) Wells, and Sisters Barbara Kay Clark and Vicky (Jody) Courtney, Sisters-in-law Fran Wells and Brenda Wells and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be at 12 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2024 with Visitation beginning at 10 AM at Stith Funeral Home, 7500 US 42, Florence, KY 41042. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, KY. Memorial contributions may be made to Florence Baptist Church, 642 Mt. Zion Rd., Florence, Ky 41042.
