Obituary For Barr Michael Manter

Barr “Mike” Michael Manter, 71, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in Edgewood, Kentucky. He was born on April 16, 1955, to the late Marie Helen (Pagliaminto) Manter and Barr Donald Manter.

Mike grew up in Independence, where some of his fondest memories were made close to home. From helping his parents on the family farm to riding dirt bikes and fishing, he developed an appreciation for hard work, the outdoors, and the simple joys of life. That love of nature stayed with him throughout his life. Mike was a true nature enthusiast and had a special love for animals. He found peace in the outdoors and could often be found on his back deck, relaxing with a cigar while watching the birds and taking in the beauty around him.

Mike was a man who believed in working hard and creating his own path. He began his career managing large car dealerships and eventually worked his way into becoming a successful real estate entrepreneur. It was through real estate that he met his loving partner, Kathleen. They shared not only 26 years together, but also a passion for real estate and the adventures and opportunities that came with it. Their partnership was built on love, friendship, and a shared life that meant so much to them both.

Mike never stopped looking for his next adventure. He loved traveling and experiencing new things, whether it was deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, or simply finding a new place to explore. He had an adventurous spirit and a genuine curiosity about the world around him. Yet, he was equally content enjoying the quiet moments at home with the people, animals, and things he loved.

Music and cooking were very important parts of Mike’s daily life. He had a love for music and especially enjoyed playing the drums. He also took great pride in cooking, from scratch, multi-course delicious meals for his family every day and especially on holidays. His hobbies and interests reflected the man he was—curious, adventurous, independent, and always eager to enjoy life.

Above all, Mike cherished his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His presence brought strength, laughter, and love to those fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to live on through the people he loved and the lives he touched.

Mike is survived by his loving spouse of 26 years, Kathleen; his children, Nicole (Tyler) Davis, Rachel Manter, and Andrew (Laura) Manter; his beloved grandchildren, Parker, Cason, Jackson, and Oliver; his brother, Stephen Manter as well as many close friends and relatives who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Helen (Pagliaminto) Manter and Barr Donald Manter.

Though Mike’s journey has come to an end, the memories he created, the adventures he shared, and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Chambers & Grubbs in Independence, Sept 26, 2026, from 3-6 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mike’s name to the Red Oak Animal Rescue by clicking here or to Wolf Creek Habitat by clicking here.
