Obituary For Bertha Mae Black

Union – Bertha Mae Black (neé: Carroll), 92, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024. Bertha was the daughter of the late Matthew Conner and Mildred (Moore) Carroll. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles William “Jim” Black and her siblings, Robert, Catherine and M.C. Carroll. Bertha is survived by her children, Edward Black (Debra), Beva Rene Huser (William), and Beta Kaye Dickerson; her grandchildren, Bobby Dickerson, Charles Dickerson, Jesse Black, Krista Goetz, and Lindsay Chappell; and 8 great-grandchildren. Bertha worked as a bus driver for Boone County Schools for many years. She was a member of Beaver Lick Baptist Church. In her younger years she enjoyed playing softball and bowling. She was a fan of the Reds, Bengals, and UK Wildcats. One of Bertha’s favorite things to do was to go to Cracker Barrel. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 15, 2023, at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, Kentucky, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Hughes Chapel Cemetery, Union, Kentucky. Memorials in Bertha’s name are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.stithfuneralhomes.com.
