Obituary For Betty J. Gillum

Betty J. Gillum, née King, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Edgewood, Kentucky. Born on November 24, 1938, in Elys, Kentucky, Betty lived a life of faith, devotion, and service.

She was a devoted member of the Community Family Church in Independence, Kentucky, where she proudly served and shared her love for her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Betty’s life was deeply rooted in her church community and family. Known for her selfless nature, she enjoyed spending time visiting and comforting sick members of her church, offering kindness and support to those in need. Her faith was a cornerstone of her being, and she was admired for her dedication to serving others and volunteering at church activities.

Family was the heart of Betty’s greatest accomplishments. She was very proud of her family, and her legacy lives on through them.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Emily) Gillum; her daughters Connie (Roy) Gambrel, Anita (Brett) Ross, and Lora (Mike) Eubank. Betty was a grandmother to Aaron, Tammie, Andrea, Kendall, and Kelsey, and a great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren, as well as five great-great-grandchildren. Alongside them, Betty leaves behind many other family members and friends who were touched by her grace and generosity.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Escoe King; her mother, Lilly King (née Inman); her husband, James Paul Gillum; and her grandson, Michael. Their memories remain close to the hearts of those who knew her.

A visitation to honor Betty’s life will take place on April 24, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at the Community Family Church, located at 11875 Taylor Mill Rd, Independence, KY 41051. A private burial will take place at Floral Hills Memorial Park where Betty will be laid to rest next to James.

Betty J. Gillum’s legacy of love, faith, and service was an inspiration to others. She will be deeply missed but always remembered with love and affection.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's name are encouraged to the Community Family Church building fund.
