Obituary For Betty Jean Preston

Betty Jean Preston, age 92, of Florence, KY, formerly of Phoenix, AZ and Hardinsburg, KY, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 1, 2025. Born on March 17, 1933, in Hawesville, KY, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lillian Bruner. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Jimmy” Preston, and her brothers, Raymond and Harlan Bruner.

Betty was a woman of incredible strength, determination, and love. A devoted mother, she is survived by her children: David (Cheryl) Preston, Melody (Jeff) Barbour, Sam Preston, Diane (Kevin) Fulkman, and Ray (Diana) Preston. She was a cherished grandmother to 13 grandchildren and a beloved great-grandmother to 25 great-grandchildren.

A hardworking and driven individual, Betty was the backbone of her family, managing their home, finances, and daily life with grace and efficiency. She was the family’s rock, ensuring that everyone was cared for and supported. After completing her work at Honeywell in 1990 at the age of 57, she embraced a new chapter as a counselor at a methadone clinic, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others.

Betty earned her Doctorate from Covington Theological Seminary and was a longtime pianist and vocalist at her church, where she shared her faith and love of music with those around her. She was an avid reader, continuing to enjoy books until her final months, and she found joy in sewing. Above all, her family was her greatest treasure, and she made countless sacrifices to provide for and support them.

A resident of Phoenix for 54 years, Betty’s impact on her community, church, and family will be remembered with deep love and gratitude.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Erlanger Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
