Obituary For Butch Campbell

Butch “Buffalo” Campbell, of Covington, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026. Known to many by his nicknames “Butch” or “Buffalo,” he was a man of straightforward conviction and deep-rooted loyalty.

Born in Covington to Elmer and June Campbell, Butch grew up in the heart of the community. After graduating from Holmes High School, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served with distinction as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) for four years, a period of his life that shaped his character and work ethic.

In 1973, Butch married Karen who he lovingly gave the nickname “Lucy.” Together, they built a life defined by family and shared values, celebrating 53 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father and brother.

He was famously known for his unique, funny personality and his straightforward, simple approach to life. He was extremely proud of and deeply loved his family and friends. He could often be found fishing, listening to music, watching horse racing, movies and enjoying his downtime.

Butch’s legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Lucy; his children; Carrie Swegles of Erlanger, Mike Campbell of Covington, Tonya Dudley of Lakeside Park, and Carol “Renie” Arlinghaus of Florence; his sister June Bonnett of Independence; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Don Catchen Family Funeral Home in Elsmere, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made directly to Karen Campbell to help with final arrangements.
