Obituary For Carol Sue Butsch

Carol Sue (née Dierig) Butsch, 82, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully at her home on May 13, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Born on December 4, 1943, to Harry Michael and Elizabeth (née Reed) Dierig, Carol lived a life defined by kindness, strength, humor, and an unwavering devotion to those around her.

Carol was married to the love of her life, Dick Butsch, for 61 years. Together they built a beautiful life filled with faith, family, and adventure. They enjoyed countless camping trips, bluegrass festivals, card games, and many winters spent snowbirding in Florida. But above all, Carol’s greatest joy was time spent with her six children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A devoted member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Carol’s faith was a constant source of comfort and guidance throughout her life. She carried that faith with quiet strength, and her family finds peace knowing she is now resting in God’s eternal embrace.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Dick; her children Connie (Rich) Cronin, Mike (Susan) Butsch, Amy (Ken) Glaser, David (Nancy) Butsch, Bob Butsch (Chrysa Malosh), and Ron Butsch (Becca Stadlemann); her siblings Patricia (Al) Merkle, Donald Dierig, Walt (Fran) Dierig, Jerry (Judy) Dierig, and Tom Dierig; sisters-in-law Pauline Dierig, Jean Brenning, Mary Dierig, and Ruth Dierig; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Steve Williams; and her siblings Charlie Dierig, Dick Dierig, Bob (late wife Marge) Dierig, Suzie (late husband Pat) McCoy, Jack (late wife Joan) Dierig, Shirley (late husband Lexy) Ford, Ann (late husband Lee) McManus, Jim Dierig, Ron (late wife Rosemary) Dierig, Paul Dierig, Mary Lou (late husband John) Brooks, Claire Dierig, Winona Dierig, and Jerry (Judy) Dierig.

Visitation will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 2162 California Crossroads, California, KY, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Sts. Peter & Paul Church or St. Elizabeth Hospice.

Carol will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the laughter she shared, and the steady, gentle presence she brought to every life she touched.
