Obituary For Claudia Mae Merkle

Claudia Mae Merkle, 94, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Born in Batavia, Ohio, on December 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Marian Buchanan. Claudia was the heart of her family and was known as the loving overseer who held everyone together. Family members often turned to her for advice, comfort, and guidance. She was always there when someone needed her, offering kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Claudia was deeply family-oriented and cherished time spent with those she loved. She especially enjoyed the holidays and took great joy in hosting family gatherings, creating warm memories that will be treasured for generations. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her children, grandchildren, and friends. No matter the struggles she faced, Claudia remained kind, loving, and optimistic, never complaining and always maintaining a positive outlook on life.

In addition to her parents, Albert and Marian Buchanan, Claudia was preceded in death by her siblings; her husband, Carl Merkle; son, Richard Merkle; daughter, Linda Merkle; grandson, David Bennett and her granddaughter, Dena Merkle.

Claudia leaves behind her son, Ron (Janet) Merkle; her daughters, Debbie Bennett and Diane (Jeff) Suttman; and her beloved grandchildren, Edie (Kelly) Storer, Brian Bennett, Beth (Kevin) Lockwood, Angie Merkle, Bridgett Suttman, Lisa (Zach) Cranfiell, Alise Merkle, and Ryan Merkle. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and several great-grandchildren, who were dear to her.

Claudia’s love, strength, and devotion to her family will be remembered always by those who were blessed to know her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
