Obituary For Darlene L. Carnes

Darlene L. Carnes, 72, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Darlene was many things to many people: a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a talent for sewing and was an accomplished seamstress. Darlene was also a pillar of the coffee industry. She also spent time working for the Covington and Independence Public Schools.

She loved spending time on the road and enjoyed taking road trips, especially when they included visits with family in Rhode Island. Darlene found joy in celebrating and loved all holidays, cherishing the traditions, gatherings, and time spent with those she loved.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, David Carnes; her parents, Gilbert and Louise Almas and her son-in-law, Dave Nantz.

She leaves behind her children, Angela (Anthony) Lenihan, Joseph Carnes, Patrick Carnes, Amanda (Adam) Reed, Tiffany Nantz, and Thomas (MaryBeth) Carnes; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra Almas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Thursday, August 20th. Darlene will be laid to rest at Mother of God Cemetery.

Didn't know Darlene, but the photo spoke volumes to me. Love it! She looked like she was a light in the world—in witness to the Light of Life!— Christ Jesus our Lord. May she rejoice and be at peace now and forever! Jill Campbell
